About This Dance

The Rumba has became a very popular ballroom dance. It was introduced in the United States about 1933.Rumba is a 4/4 Latin ballad at a tempo of 128 – 144 beats per minute. The characteristic feature is to take each step without initially placing the weight on that step. Steps are made with a slightly bent knee, which, when straightened, causes the hips to sway from side to side in what has come to be known as “Cuban Motion”.American style Rumba is danced to a variety of musical genre from the most traditional of Latin sounds to modern day pop hits.
